Dinosauria

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ daytime 2023 summer gate driver.

Design brief ///
Tie dinosaurs with the zoo.

Through researching a concept I realized ancestors of plants from millions of years ago thrive in Jacksonville’s weather. Furthermore, in January 2023, an article came out about fossils of flowers. These elements and the zoo’s extensive gardens inspired my decision to brand the 2023 event as Dinosauria: Dinosaurs + The Age of Flowers.

By coordinating with horticulture I was able to highlight the plants their research showed thrived during each period. These educational moments also make for great transitions between the animatronic dinosaurs.

I created signage that is easy to digest for children, but not too boring for adults. I added a scale to each sign to quickly identify stats on dinosaurs. (This feature is something kids of all ages are used to thanks to games like Dungeons and Dragons and Pokémon.)

Dinosauria: The Age of Dinosaurs at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens ran the summer of 2023.
